If you’re a film buff, you absolutely need to come to Vancouver this September for the Vancouver International Film Festival. An affair that lasts for over two weeks, this year VIFF will begin on September 27 and continue until October 12 – which gives you plenty of chances to check out some of today’s best films, or some of North America’s most elegant red carpet events!
Looking for live events? You can look forward to seeing The Wu-Tang Clan’s very own maestro of sound The RZA live scoring the classic kung-fu film, The 36thChamber of Shaolin, or participate in influential Canadian DJ Kid Koala’s interactive performance piece Satellite, where members of the audience are invited to contribute to an ambient remix for his performance! And that’s just the beginning of the live performances!
If you want to just check out a movie or two you’re welcome to, but if you really want to experience VIFF you’ll buy a full VIFF pass or a ticket package to really explore the films and events! The full program hasn’t been announced yet, but you can bet there will be hundreds of fascinating, compelling and thought-provoking films from around the world! Of those that have been announced, we’re looking forward to The Last Summer, a lyrical Welsh tale of growing up and the loss of innocence in a cruel adult world, and Nico 1988, a biopic about the last years of Andy Warhol’s muse, Nico, as she tours Europe singing her influential songs, living a life as turbulent as that moment in history. We’re also looking forward to Firecrackers, a Canadian film about two young girls in rural Ontario chafing against limitations of their hometown and aspiring to something greater… but that’s just the tip of the iceberg! Find out more about what films are playing at this year’s VIFF here!
If you really want to experience VIFF, one or two days just isn’t going to cut it. Book an extended stay suite at the Landis Hotel & Suites in downtown Vancouver to really enjoy this event!
